  17. <p>    Is AIDS a proper subject for humor? Satirist Garry Trudeau
  18. thought so and applied some black comedy to a segment on the
  19. disease in his Doonesbury strip. But gay activists objected, and
  20. some newspapers temporarily dropped the strip. "The fact that
  21. he's a liberal with a good heart does not exempt him from
  22. criticism," said a gay critic. Others, however, praised
  23. Trudeau, who told a newspaper editor that his aim was to "attack
  24. the fear and ignorance by laughing in its face."
